Information We Collect

We collect limited information to improve your experience on Old School Chess.

Analytics Data

We use Google Analytics 4 to understand how visitors use our site. This includes pages visited, time spent on the site, browser type, device type, and general geographic region (country/city level). This data is collected automatically and is anonymized.

Account Data

If you create an account, we store your email address, display name, and account preferences using Firebase Authentication. Game data and learning progress are stored in Firebase to provide a personalized experience.

We do not collect payment information, social security numbers, or other sensitive personal data.

Cookies and Tracking

Google Analytics 4

GA4 uses cookies to understand site usage. It collects anonymized data about page views, session duration, and general location. You can opt out using your browser settings or the Google Analytics opt-out browser extension.

Advertising measurement (Google Ads and Meta)

We advertise on Google and on Meta platforms (Facebook and Instagram). To measure whether those ads lead to sign-ups and trials, we use Google Tag Manager, Google Ads conversion tracking, and the Meta Pixel with Meta's Conversions API. These record the ad you clicked, the pages you visit, and conversion events such as creating an account or starting a trial. When you create an account we may share a hashed (unreadable) version of your email address with Meta and Google so they can match the conversion to the ad. We do not share your chess activity, your messages with the coach, or your payment details with either company. You can opt out through Meta's ad settings (under Settings and privacy, then Ads), Google's ad settings (adssettings.google.com), or by blocking these tags in your browser.

PostHog product analytics

PostHog helps us understand how the product is used, including session replays of how you move through the site. Text you type into forms is masked before it is recorded. This data is used to improve the product and is not sold or used for advertising outside our own site.

Firebase

Firebase uses cookies and local storage to maintain your login session and store preferences.

We use these tools only to run and measure our own advertising and to improve the product. We do not sell your data to advertisers or let third parties use it for their own advertising.

Third-Party Services

Children's Privacy

Old School Chess is designed for adult learners. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will promptly remove it.
